How to choose the right childcare provider?

Comment bien choisir sa garde d’enfant ?
You are expecting your child or you have just given birth , and now it is time to choose the childcare method for your toddler! Between home care, family daycare or not and nanny: there are many possibilities for having your little one looked after. We explain each of the childcare methods and why it is important to choose it quickly .

What are the different types of childcare?

Having your baby looked after for the first time is not always easy for parents. In order to best consider this necessary step in the evolution of family life, we have drawn up a list of childcare methods , with their operations and advantages!

Housekeeping

This is the simplest solution. Home care consists of having a nanny (also called a parental assistant) , but at your home ! In addition, you can benefit from a service adapted to your needs: you choose the hours and the pace of life for example.  Another advantage of home care is that your baby will continue to grow and develop in an environment that he knows . No stress about car rides or quick morning preparations: your little one stays at home. And if he is still asleep when you have to leave for work, the nanny will take over. Pretty practical as a type of care, right?

Put your child in daycare

At the nursery, your baby will meet other children : he will begin to socialize . To give you an idea, in collective nurseries, your little one will rub shoulders with around sixty children aged from 3 months to 3 years . And if you want your baby to grow up in a calmer environment, opt for micro-crèches . These accommodate a maximum of 10 children of different ages. To be sure of getting a place in a nursery, it is recommended to apply as early as possible , preferably even before the baby arrives! Some nurseries require that the future baby be registered from the 6th month of pregnancy . Private nursery, municipal nursery, community nursery: the choice is yours!

The family nursery

Parents looking for small-scale childcare that is open to the community are likely to love the concept of the family daycare ! Also called a family reception service, this original childcare format is the happy medium between home care and a traditional daycare . How is it organized? An approved childminder will welcome your child aged 2 months to 4 years into her home . Your child will be accompanied by a maximum of four other children. The welcome is personal: your baby will feel like they are in their second home. And to open up to the world, the children spend one to two days a week in the premises of a crèche supervised by staff: childcare worker, doctor, early childhood educator. Between them, the little ones awaken and discover life as a group !

Why choose your childcare method as quickly as possible?

Before you start looking into daycare centers or nannies, you must first choose the type of care that seems best suited to your child and, above all, that meets your expectations! If you choose the nursery, find out if it is possible to pre-register . Once you have given birth, you will need to confirm your pre-registration. Be aware that nursery places are very limited ! For the nanny and the childminder, you also need to take your time. Finding the right person is essential. If possible, choose a childminder close to your home or workplace : it's easier to drop off and pick up baby.

Choosing childcare for your child can be a stressful time . But don't panic, you'll find it! The key is to take your time to study the possible options and go to daycare centers or childminders. Make your choice as early as possible, because once the baby arrives, you won't have to worry about choosing their childcare!
