Do's and don'ts of summer with baby

In summer, when the heat is high, going out with baby requires parents to take some precautions. Whether it's a short walk along the beach or an afternoon stroll, you shouldn't forget the best practices. Discover all our advice for a peaceful summer outing with baby !

#1 Cover the baby stroller with a swaddle

When temperatures rise, many parents cover their baby's stroller with a swaddle or a small blanket to protect it from the sun. In reality, this is a habit that should be avoided because the swaddle prevents air circulation and turns the stroller into a real thermos. Since babies are sensitive to heat, it is important to protect them. Instead of the swaddle, opt for an umbrella accompanied by the summer essentials: sunglasses , sunscreen and a hat !

Cocoeko Tips
: Although it is not welcome on the baby stroller, the swaddle is an essential to slip into the diaper bag. As an extra blanket during a country walk or to protect the shoulder in case of regurgitation, you will not be able to do without it!

#2 Giving a bath that is too cold

If you have read our article on "when to switch to a summer sleeping bag", you must know that a baby does not regulate his temperature properly before 6 months. For an ideal bath, the water temperature must be between 35 and 36 degrees . Below that, baby risks catching a cold. In case of extreme heat, you can bathe baby throughout the day to allow him to cool down. Cocoeko tips : for a gentle bath exit, fall for our magic bath apron. Thanks to a fastening system, you will have your hands free to serenely enjoy this moment of complicity.

#3 Don’t wait for baby to ask for a drink

In case of extreme heat, hydration is essential ! The problem is that babies do not have the reflex to ask for water to hydrate themselves. It is therefore necessary to offer them something to drink regularly, throughout the day. Between two bottles, you can offer a bottle of water, especially during a heatwave!

Cocoeko Tips
: To always keep a bottle of baby bottle and a bottle of water nearby, remember to take the changing bag. With its large storage space and waterproof interior, you are sure not to miss anything during your outings with baby.

#4 Avoid sun exposure

Before the age of 3, baby's skin is extremely thin and it can be dangerous to expose it to the sun. When the sun comes out, sunscreen is therefore essential. To avoid any risk of sunburn, opt for a sunscreen with SPF 50 and reapply every 2 hours and after each time your baby goes swimming. For optimal protection, remember to dry your baby's skin well and don't hesitate to put on an anti-UV t-shirt to enjoy the beach. Our article is coming to an end, we hope to have given you the keys to a peaceful summer with baby. However, do not forget that despite all the precautions taken, heatstroke is never 100% avoidable, especially when temperatures soar. Certain signs such as nausea, vomiting, refusal to eat and fever can alert you. If you have symptoms of heatstroke, consult a pediatrician!
